Read the Whole Bible in 2018
A group of us here at Saviour of the Nations are making a New Year’s resolution to read through the whole Bible this year. If you have not read through the whole Bible before in an intentional, disciplined way, we challenge you to try it. It will change your life in ways you haven’t imagined and give you a natural way to develop a devotional life for daily repentance and growth.
You can find a copy of the current plan here: Saviour of the Nations Bible Reading Plan 2018
Practically speaking, this means about 3-4 chapters or 10-15 minutes Monday-Saturday, with breaks for Sundays and Special Services so that you focus on the Scripture readings for worship. Plus, we have occasional days set aside to review of the fundamentals of the faith from Luther’s Small Catechism. Find a Lutheran pastor if you don’t have one.
If you want reading the Bible to become a habit, then you need to intentionalize when and how you read. Consider the following:
- Choose one physical Bible to read. The spatial memory will help things stick.
- Set aside a time of the day to read, or multiple. This way you will begin to read without realizing it.
- Write down your thoughts in a notebook or digital file.
- Ask yourself questions like:
What does this teach me to do? (Main Theme)
What does this teach me to confess? (Specific Law)
What does this teach me to be thankful for? (Specific Gospel)
What does this teach me to ask for? (Sanctification)
