The ESL Conversation Class is a comfortable and inviting environment to practice English through listening and speaking with (soon to be) friends. Students practice English vocabulary and grammar through fun and natural speaking activities and games. It’s okay to make mistakes! This is a safe place to practice with other English speakers from our community. Many good friendships are made in these classes.
No. Each class is structured around a topic, and if you do not know the grammar or vocabulary, that’s why you’re there! A sheet is provided every class to practice speaking and take notes. Plus, David is linguist and polyglot who is currently pursuing a PhD. in Linguistics. So he just might be able to help you in your native language!
Simple. Just come by at 9:30am and be ready to chat! If it is your first time, be sure to give David your contact info so we can keep you notified. As a conversation class, we mostly stand and talk to each other, though there’s breaks to sit down and take some notes. We have tea, coffee, and small snacks that people bring to share. For the rest, you’ll just have to come and experience it yourself.
To love our neighbour and serve our community, which we are called to do as a church. Most people who live in Vancouver are not from Vancouver, and many have a need to practice their English. Wilson Heights also has a community advocate on staff and other services for those who have other needs. Also, we worship at 3pm on Sundays and offer various other Bible classes during the week to serve your spiritual and deepest needs.
By popular demand, we offer a half hour (11:15-45am) English Bible study after the ESL Conversation Class for those who want to practice reading English and know more about the Bible. So if you have a little time to spare after class before lunch, feel free to “stick around for a bit.”
Our class is taught by David Sigrist, who is a certified ESL/EFT/TESL instructor in British Columbia. David has several years of ESL teaching experience and tutoring in Mexico and the United States, and now he’s here at Saviour of the Nations to help you learn English and welcome you to Canada.
For more information about these classes, text or call David at 604-754-3752, or chat with him on WeChat (his ID = DavidJSigrist).
